SUNDAY'S CHILD
“Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go,
Friday's child works hard for a
living,
Saturday's child is loving and
giving,
But the child who is born on the
Sabbath day
Is bonnie and blithe and good and
gay.”
Thirty-four years ago on this
date, I missed church. Missing
church is a rare thing for The Husband and me as our Sundays are most often
spent in worship. That particular
Sunday, we were at the hospital as I had gone into labor. At 11:59, right about the time church service
was over, our baby girl was born.
Yes, on a Sunday. Sunday’s
child.
A modern version of this poem has
the final lines that go like this:
“But the child who is born on the
Sabbath day
Is fair and wise and good in
every way.”
I love that version because that’s exactly how The Girl is. Okay, maybe EVERY WAY is a slight stretch and I
wouldn’t want to be putting her on a pedestal as I know that’s not so good a
place to be. Great is the
fall. But I will say that I am so
proud of the young woman she has become and am overwhelmed at the goodness of
the Lord in his blessings to our home when she came to live in our family.
So happy birthday, sweet girl!
